The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation ( GLAAD ) has issued a call to action after The View guest host D.L. Hughley and regular panelist Sherri Shepherd reportedly perpetuated "dangerous myths," according to Advocate.com. On the June 22 episode of the show the panel discussed the current blood-donation ban regarding gay and bisexual men as well as the prevalence of HIV among African-American women. Hughley and Shepherd talked about men on the "down low" and Shepherd blamed the high HIV rate on women "having unprotected sex with men who have been having sex ... with men."
GLAAD's Senior Director of Programs Rashad Robinson said that their statements "fuel a climate of homophobia and racism." GLAAD's petition is available at www.tiny.cc/r4h4r .
